Unanswered Questions
The Unanswered Questions icon instructs students to seek out puzzles, conundrums, and dilemmas. Learners are encouraged to note ambiguities, formulate questions, and test assumptions.
Curricular Examples:
- Infer the daily activities of a chemist based on a series of biographical articles.
- Ascertain the author’s motivation in writing the article.
- Consider the equation and conclude the missing information needed to solve the problem.
- Note ambiguities between primary texts about a historical event.
Question Stems:
- How can an engineer solve the problem by discovering what has not been explored, proven, or understood about a topic?
- How is the information given incomplete or lacking in explanation?
- What discrepancies in information did you find in your research about the Loch Ness monster?
Task Statement:
Students will list unanswered questions at the onset of the study of plate tectonics, use the questions to guide their research, and create a museum exhibit displaying their findings.
