Patterns
The Patterns icon encourages learners to look for repetition, predictability, or cycles. Students that use the Patterns icon as a lens of learning examine the topic for recurrent features and identify relationships based on their findings.
Curricular Examples:
- Compare and contrast the patterns that exist in nonfiction texts.
- Discover multiple examples showing the cause and effect of erosion.
- Examine the patterns that arise after reading several primary documents.
- Classify the patterns of standard measurement.
Question Stems:
- What can historians predict about new constitutional amendments based on the pattern of past/present/future?
- How would an economist illustrate the monetary patterns associated with the production of cotton as a natural resource?
- What conclusions can be drawn from the pattern of behavior of the protagonist of the story?
Task Statement:
Students will read the short story, sequence the plot patterns, and share their findings by designing an illustrated cause-and-effect chain.
