Parallel
The Parallel icon asks students to interpret similarities among events, people, or problems. Learners consider how principles correspond and compare and contrast with evidence.
Curricular Examples:
- Compare the parallels in the class systems of ancient civilizations.
- Prove with evidence that a system of the past parallels a system of today.
- Create a prioritized list of the evidence showing how some ideas or events are parallel.
- Research the parallels between the arts and politics of the Industrial Revolution.
Question Stems:
- How would a meteorologist and an environmental scientist illustrate the parallels between extreme weather and climate trends that have developed in the past 50 years?
- How would an architect explain building design to an engineer?
- What conclusions can you draw between author’s purpose and the themes of Patricia Polacco’s books?
Task Statement:
Students will read several different cultural adaptations of Cinderella and compare and contrast the parallels between the stories using a chart.
