Ethics
The Ethics icon directs learners to analyze a topic’s controversies, biases, and prejudices. When the Ethics icon is applied as the lens of learning, students consider the principals of “right” behavior and examine their belief systems surrounding the content.
Curricular Examples:
- Judge and defend with criteria the biases/prejudices surrounding cloning.
- Examine the role of opposing figures during the civil rights movement and appraise their relationships.
- Conclude the possible biases presented in a graph.
- Distinguish fact from opinion in an editorial article.
Question Stems:
- How does an author highlight beliefs, values, or judgments surrounding a topic?
- How has bias, prejudice, or discrimination affected the way psychologists analyze research data?
- What are the potential merits and disadvantages of using political cartoons to persuade an audience?
Task Statement:
Students will prove with evidence the ethics behind the use of nonrenewable resources found in a text set and present their understanding by constructing a detailed chart.
